Good morning everyone,                                             6-13-22

We are blessed with a warm summer day. It was 69° this morning and is slightly humid.

I stepped outside the front door of the store and tried to absorb the beauty of the flowers that make up the display against the front of the store. They are beautiful! Then off in the distance, from the trees across the street, the soft, musical song of the Warbling Vireo reaches my ears. Ahh! Summertime!

Summertime also involves work, such as hoeing the garden to keep ahead of the weeds, watering if it doesn’t rain often enough, etc. I think the birds are also working hard to feed their young. I need to fill the Oriole feeder quite often. Besides the 2 kinds of Orioles, the Cardinal, House finch and Mockingbird also come to dine on the jam.

A variety of produce is coming in, including peaches, zucchini, tomatoes, etc.

Events at Mt. Hope include:

  • Machinery Sale on June 18th
  • Ohio Crippled Children’s Fund auction on June 24th-25th
  • Swap Meet on July 15th-16th

I was asked to bake cookies for lunch after our Sunday church service. The following recipe is what I used. The ingredients are all available at the Ashery.

Chocolate Marshmallow Bars

7 tblsp butter, softened

½ cup evaporated cane juice

½ cup brown sugar, packed

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp baking soda

¾ cup walnuts, chopped

1½ cups mini semi sweet choc chips

1½ cups micro marshmallows

2¼ cups sir galahad flour

Combine sugars with butter until creamy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Gradually add flour, soda and salt. Stir in nuts, choc chips and marshmallows. Spread on a greased 10×15 cookie sheet. Bake at 375° for 20 minutes. Yields: 24 bars

“And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

Have a good month,  Sovilla
