Good afternoon everyone,
This is January and we are in the middle of winter. The scene outside the window intensifies that assumption. The ground is covered with the white stuff we call snow. This forenoon we had clear blue skies but now at 1:30 PM the sky is almost as white as the ground and there is more snow coming down. It is nice to be able to stay inside where it is cozy and warm.
A song sparrow is sitting in the feeder hunched up into a little ball eating sunflower seeds. The cardinals and red bellied woodpeckers come and snatch kernels of corn off the ear that we put out for them. A friend of mine lives beside a wooded area and she has a tree that was loaded with hawthorn berries and over the weekend a large flock of robins, possibly nearly 100, came and totally ate them all up. Then they also left their digested remains behind on the ground. ☺
We hosted church services on Sunday then in the evening we had supper and hymn singing for the youth. We fed approximately 60-70 people and enjoyed a nice time singing and fellowship.

One way to have some fresh salad greens during the winter months is to raise your own sprouts. There are a variety of seeds to choose from: alfalfa, radish, clover, broccoli and beans etc. They are tasty and full of nutrition. Winter is also soup time.
