  • This hearty old world dish is Italian, but at least historically, it has nothing to do with weddings. This dish earned the name “Minestra Maritata” or “married soup” because it brings together meat and greens in a happy marriage of flavors. Bring the taste of the Old Country to your dinner table with this original recipe, or hone in on the flavors of Italy’s Tuscan region by adding diced potatoes, Italian sausage and white beans.
  • Recipe: 2 ½ cups water, ½ cup (rounded) Italian Wedding Soup Starter, ¼ lb. cooked tiny meatballs or cubed, cooked meat. Using a heavy kettle, combine water and soup starter and bring to a boil. Stir regularly to avoid sticking. Reduce heat to achieve a low boil. Simmer for 8 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the cooked meat and return to boil. Remove from the burner and cover for 5 minutes. Serve.
