Good Afternoon,                                                                            2-12-24

This morning, we were blessed with a calm, quiet, frosty morning. When the sun penetrated the hazy sky, the rays were a soft, shimmering, light illuminating the silvery frost on the grass in the yard. The temperature was 29°. Now at 2:00 PM the sunshine is still faintly hazy. We are having a very mild, beautiful day.

Since we left January behind and turned our calendars and are enjoying some sunny days, I notice that the birds are more active. The cardinals and blue birds remind us of how lovely their songs are. Would they be thinking of building nests already?

Last week I put some lettuce and radish seeds into the soil in my hot bed anticipating fresh salad fixings in early spring. It’s time to browse through seed catalogs and make a shopping list of what we need.

This Wednesday is the sewing day for the church ladies. They will be doing quilting and working on comforters. A rewarding day for them.

Here at the Ashery we had some over ripe bananas, so they took this recipe out of the cookbook, “Cooking in the Blessed Nest”, and made banana bread.

½ cup butter

1 cup white sugar

2 eggs

3 bananas

2 cups all-purpose flour

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

½ cup walnuts chopped

½ tsp vanilla

¼ tsp cinnamon

Cream butter, sugar, bananas, and eggs. Add dry ingredients. Mix well. Bake in loaf pan at 350° for 45 minutes. A double batch makes 3 loaves.

On February 16-17 the Tri-County Health Expo will be held at the Heritage Community building on Route 62 between Berlin and Winesburg. The air works show in Mt. Hope will be taking place on the same days. It usually brings a lot of people into the area.

A quote by Benjamin Franklin – “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.”

Have a good day!
