Good afternoon everyone,                                                                       3-19-24

The sky is overcast. Occasionally the sun will shine softly, as if through a haze. It is windy and cold, 38° at 1:04 PM. This morning, we had a little snow on the ground from the squall last night.

The weather has put a “hold” on our gardening urge. A week ago, I planted peas and onions. I hope they will be OK. The lettuce and radishes in the cold frame are up and waiting for more warm sunshine.

Farmers are hauling manure or plowing when they can. We see a lot of plowing has been done already.

On Saturday the church women from 3 districts came together for the annual ladies dinner in honor of widows, singles, wives of the ministers and youth girls. After dinner the girls sang for the rest. It was an enjoyable time of good food and fellowship.

March is the season for duck migration. I went along to the Killbuck Wildlife area near Shreve to see the hundreds of waterfowl that stop there to feed and rest on their journey to the nesting grounds in the north. It was a sunny day, and we were on Cemetery Road looking east over the marsh. A large flock of approximately a dozen different species, plus the Canada goose were busily feeding, etc. Some were diving completely under the surface, some were tipping, plunging their head and neck under the water while their tail end stuck straight up into the air. Others were splashing, bathing, or preening. Still others were calmly swimming and floating along. The rays from the late afternoon sun illuminating their various and vibrant colors created a beautiful scene.

Tip: To mix protein or meal replacement powder in a bottle with water without a shaker ball add frozen blueberries. They will break up the lumps and you get to eat the blueberries after you finish the drink.
