Hello Everyone,

Spring is here and it sure feels good! I hope everyone is able to enjoy it!

Yesterday I went for a walk to a small wood lot that had a pond at the edge. I was hoping to find some migrating birds and I was not disappointed. The first one I saw was the tiny, energetic, Blue Gray Gnatcatcher and it was low enough that I could see it’s back. Usually it is up in the top of the trees and you almost have to break your neck in order to see it. Just listening to all the twittering, chirping, bird songs told me there is something going on. I soon saw quite a few Yellow Rumped Warblers flitting around and one was chasing another one and they almost flew into me. My guess is they were only about 2-3 feet away from me for a split second! A pair of beautiful Wood Ducks were on the water and being shy they soon flew off. Eastern Phoebes were there and a Singing Yellow Warbler. The highlight was the Ruby Crowned Kinglet that I saw and heard singing. I did not know they have such a long and lovely song.

I know there are some birders that will read this and I am looking forward to perhaps meeting some of you at Magee Marsh in May. I plan to be in that area May 5-13th.

Some early gardens are being planted. I have enjoyed eating fresh lettuce already. Farmers are plowing. Excitement is rising in hopes of enjoying a spring season again. God is good and faithfully keeps changing the seasons on time.

Some of the Amish schools had their last day last week and the school picnic on Saturday.

I want to share a recipe my co-worker Iva gave me for Ranch Pretzels:

3lbs pretzels (Benzel stick pretzels are very good)
1 cup oil
1 cup butter
1 1/2 tsp dill weed
1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 cup ranch dressing mix

Place the oil and butter in a saucepan and heat until butter is melted. Add the seasoning and ranch dressing mix. Mix well. Pour over pretzels and mix gently. Bake at 250F for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes.
