Good Evening Everyone,                                                     10-19-21

It is a clear, beautiful evening, a continuation of how it has been all day. It is 7:15 and almost dark. The thermometer shows 63°. Yesterday morning it was 45°, the coldest we have had yet so far. Over the weekend we got some very welcome rain and now we have sunshine again.

The leaves on the trees are beginning to show color. Perhaps it will be a colorful fall season after all.

The silos have been filled and the remaining cornstalks are brown, ready to be picked soon. A neighbor was out in the field with the flat bed wagon husking corn by hand. That was a job I used to enjoy and have pleasant memories of being out in the field in AM & PM. In the evening we’d have to unload the last load after chores. By then it was dark and the only light we had was a gas lantern.

The last of September and first of October for an approximate 2 week span we heard Great Horned Owl hoots during the night. With some research I learned that at this time of year they do their courtship display by loudly calling to each other and to mark out their territory.

The Heritage Community Center will host a music night on Saturday, October 23rd, it opens at 5:00 PM. The Save n Serve thrift shop will have their annual Christmas Open House on October 21-23.

The events at Mt. Hope are:

  • October 25th– Fall Dairy Sale
  • October 29-30th– Chupps Furniture Auction
  • November 5-6th– Mid Ohio Alternative Animal & Bird Sale
  • November 6th– Toy & Train Show

The time of year for Pumpkin is here again, you may want to try a:

Frozen Pumpkin Dessert

2 cups Pumpkin

¾ cup Sorghum, or use sweetener of your choice

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon nutmeg

2 teaspoons cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ginger (optional)

1 quart cream, whipped to 2 quarts

1 teaspoon vanilla

Fold all ingredients together carefully. Do not overmix. It fills a 9×13 pan. Freeze by itself or on top of graham cracker crust. Also good on top of a crust made with ginger snaps. Recipe is from Healthy Choices Cookbook.  I will close with Psalm 126:3. “The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.”

Have a beautiful Fall season.       – Sovilla
